I am a philosopher and education researcher based in Belgium, where I have lived since 2008. I completed my PhD in philosophy at UCLouvain in 2019 and am now a postdoctoral research fellow funded by the FNRS at the university’s Hoover Chair in Economic and Social Ethics.
My interest in education grew out of research on recognition and identity. I wanted to understand what enables people to develop a positive relationship with themselves, and how that relationship can remain open to change. This led me to ask what educational institutions can contribute to that process.
As the research developed, I became increasingly interested in attention and in the relationships through which it takes shape. My own teaching, and conversations with my wife about her work as a primary school teacher, helped me see how strongly institutional decisions can affect what educators are able to notice and respond to. Those experiences continue to inform my work on the relationship between pedagogy and educational governance.
I live with my wife and our two children, who are the center of my world.
I currently teach philosophy of education at UCLouvain. My teaching experience also includes general philosophy, educational ethics, ethics and economics, and philosophical research methodology. I also have extensive experience teaching English, both privately and in higher education.
